Today at USAO, I realized just how anticipated the final Harry Potter is. Here it comes: the moment we have all been waiting for. It seems tickets have been selling left and right for the final addition to the Harry Potter series, and the expectations are incredibly high for it to be the grand finale. We are sure to see at least half of the people who show up on midnight dressed in full Harry Potter attire. My only suggestion is: as long as dressed up Voldemorts stay on one side of the room and dressed up Harry Potters stay on the other, all will be well.
As fans have seen, the Harry Potter movies have been very up and down throughout the years. Director Chris Columbus gave the crowd a fantastic start, enchanting the young readers and drawing them into J.K. Rowling’s world of magic. However, the movies seem to change as the readers change in age. Alfonso Cauron directs the third one with a shocking new take on the series, forming the film into a dark and twisted tale, followed by Mike Newell, who attempts to transform the fourth one into a spectacular visually enticing show.
And then we get our final director: David Yates. Now, David Yates unfortunately disappoints at first. The fifth addition shows no talent or personal connection with the story of Harry Potter, but merely makes an obvious attempt to squeeze in all of the information provided from an eight hundred page book into an hour and a half on the lowest budget possible. However, in the sixth film we see slight improvement and the use of a considerable amount of dark humor.
Finally, we are provided with the seventh one. David Yates blows the crowd away in the stunning seventh addition, enticing the viewers in a dramatic, visually impressive and much more mature film, adding all the information needed from such a loaded book and really giving the audience a feeling of maturity.
Fans expect no less in the final film. We can only hope that this new and final addition is the spectacle we’ve been waiting for. This is it, guys. Our beloved series has come to an end. But remember: with every end, there is always a new beginning.
